It is not unheard of that the colour red is considered to be lucky within the Chinese culture. As well as luck, it also represents success, wealth, prosperity and happiness. To express this, various symbols or objects are often used, however, the meaning behind them is not as evident to those unfamiliar to the culture.
‘Luck’ is a series taken with a personal approach exploring a selection of still life objects. The main intention was to give the viewer a better understanding behind the meaning of each. The use of the surrounding black background hopes to attract the viewer’s attention as it contrasts with the vibrant object.
The series was created as part of a group exhibition 'InfraRED Collective' with the theme of 'Red'. Exhibited at Whitespace Gallery, Edinburgh in March 2019.
